ASICLAND Embarks on Nation’s First AI Hub SoC Development Based on Arm Neoverse CSS N2 as Part of 10 Billion KRW National Project
▶ Launch of Korea’s first AI hub SoC development… Adoption of Arm Neoverse CSS N2-based chiplet platform
▶ Enables fabless companies to reduce development time and cost… Expected to boost the AI semiconductor industry
[May 19, 2025] ASICLAND has secured a foundation to lead next-generation on-device AI semiconductor technologies by winning a major national R&D project, marking a potential turning point for Korea’s semiconductor industry.
ASICLAND (445090), a specialized ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) design solution provider led by LEE Jong-min, CEO of ASICLAND, announced on the 19th that it has been selected for the “Development of Chiplet-Based Hub SoC Optimized for On-Device AI” project, overseen by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP).
The project carries a total budget of 10 billion KRW, and over the next 3 years and 9 months, ASICLAND will collaborate with Supergate (the lead institution) and Korea University Research Management system Cooperation Foundation (a joint research institute) to develop a high-performance, low-power chiplet-based hub SoC optimized for on-device applications, along with an SDK (Software Development Kit).
As part of Korea’s first national project to develop a chiplet-based SoC for AI hubs, ASICLAND, an Arm Total Design partner, will be responsible for the entire semiconductor development process—from SoC architecture design and verification, to tape-out (conversion of design data for manufacturing), chip fabrication (fab-out), package design, and initial testing.
A key feature of the project is ASICLAND’s plan to build the SoC on Arm’s Neoverse Compute Subsystems N2 (CSS N2) platform—marking the first such adoption in Korea. The Neoverse CSS N2 is highly regarded globally for its high performance, low power consumption, and scalability. Furthermore, the project will implement the UCIe (Universal Chiplet Interconnect Express) interface, an international technical standard, to enhance hardware interoperability and scalability.
By applying chiplet technology that integrates diverse functional chips into one system, ASICLAND aims to establish a hub SoC hardware platform capable of economically and rapidly integrating heterogeneous processors with varying development processes and cycles. This advancement is expected to significantly reduce the development time and cost for small and mid-sized fabless companies, allowing them to quickly respond to changing market demands.
LEE Jong-min, CEO of ASICLAND, stated, “The chiplet-based AI hub SoC is more than a technological innovation—it’s a platform and infrastructure that supports the entire fabless ecosystem. Through this first-ever project to implement an Arm CSS N2-based SoC in Korea, we aim to spearhead the development of a robust semiconductor ecosystem and enable Korean fabless companies to expand globally.”
In a related move, ASICLAND recently signed a turnkey contract worth 10.5 billion KRW with Supergate for the development of an AI VPU (Vision Processing Unit), further accelerating the expansion of its on-device AI ecosystem.
