ASICLAND, a Semiconductor Design Support Company, Expands to the US and Japan: "Aiming for 500 Billion KRW in Sales by 2029"


ASICLAND, a semiconductor design support company (design house), is set to establish a US subsidiary and secure a local partner in Japan within the year as part of its global market expansion. The company aims to broaden its design support business overseas and achieve sales of 500 billion KRW by 2029. ASICLAND is the only design house in Korea collaborating with TSMC.

Jongmin Lee, CEO of ASICLAND, stated, "We plan to secure new growth drivers by capturing the demand for new system semiconductor production volumes from TSMC's new fabs under construction in the US and Japan, as well as design support needs from local fabless semiconductor companies."

Currently, most of ASICLAND's clients are domestic companies. The company assists Korean fabless companies that use TSMC foundries (semiconductor contract manufacturing). ASICLAND plans to establish a local subsidiary in Silicon Valley, which accounts for 70% of the global fabless market, to secure demand for TSMC foundry services.

In Japan, ASICLAND will collaborate with local design houses that are not TSMC partners to attract new clients. The company is currently in partnership discussions with multiple Japanese design houses. They aim to secure local demand, including production volumes from TSMC's Kumamoto fab, being constructed in collaboration with Sony and Denso.

It is unusual for a domestic design house to expand into the global market. Although TSMC's expansion into the US and Japan significantly influences this move, it would not be possible without technological capability and know-how.

Since being selected as a TSMC partner (VCA) in 2019, ASICLAND has gained experience supporting a wide range of process designs, from 5nm to 180nm. Unlike other partners, ASICLAND possesses solutions that cover the entire semiconductor production process, from design and development to mass production. Its partnerships with ARM and the establishment of an automated SoC design platform have provided a solid foundation for global expansion.

ASICLAND plans to raise the necessary funds through a KOSDAQ listing to pioneer the global market. The company's sales reached 42.2 billion KRW with an operating profit of 2.8 billion KRW in 2021, and last year it recorded sales of 65.6 billion KRW and an operating profit of 10.9 billion KRW.

CEO Lee emphasized, "Although three out of TSMC's eight VCAs in the US are already providing services, ASICLAND plans to compete locally by offering comprehensive semiconductor design support, including the front-end area that other design houses avoid due to margin reasons. The high demand for AI semiconductor design blueprints and our experience in TSMC mass production provide sufficient competitiveness as a latecomer."
